  Russell Beam Plant Ecologist

QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY
Mr. Beam has over 10 years of experience conducting biological field research. He has conducted forest and vegetation surveys in AZ, CO, MT, NM, NV, SD, TX, UT, and WY. His skills also include data processing, statistical analysis, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). His specific interest is in the effectiveness of various revegetation techniques and how forests respond to various disturbances.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
During the past four years at ESCO Mr. Beam has worked extensively in vegetation monitoring field studies on various coal mines throughout the Intermountain Region, long-term grassland studies, and creating forest management plans for private land owners in the Front Range of Colorado. Mr. Beam has conducted data processing and analysis, assisted the Restoration Ecologist in native revegetation/reclamation planning and implementation, and has acted as an on-site supervisor/consultant to ensure restoration plans are being followed by all contracted individuals for specified clients. Mr. Beam has also performed wetland delineations, Threatened and Endangered plant surveys, and developed efficient methods for identifying Red-cockaded Woodpecker habitat by a combination of aerial photography interpolation and groundtruthing.

Russell Beam was a Graduate Research Assistant at the Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management (2005-2007) at Colorado State University. He conducted a USDA Forest Service funded project investigating the interaction of bark beetles and dwarf mistletoe in ponderosa pine. In addition, he assisted in several projects with Dr. Jacobi’s Forest and Shade Tree Lab.

Mr. Beam was a Plant Health Care Technician with Arbor Pro Tree Experts Co. Inc (2005) and a Biological Science Technician with the USDA Forest Service-Forest Health Management-Lakewood Service Center. Mr. Beam was conducting various biological surveys in the disciplines of forest entomology and pathology within the central and southern Rocky Mountains (2004).

Mr. Beam was a Biological Science Technician-Field Crew Leader with the USDA Forest Service-Forest Health Management-Gunnison Service Center (2003). He conducted various biological surveys in the disciplines of forest entomology and pathology within the Rocky Mountains.

As a Thornton Research Project Grantee, Mr. Beam conducted an investigation into the relationship between ant diversity and abundance, habitat type and ecosystem health in sagebrush steppe, Gunnison County, Colorado (2002-2003).

Mr. Beam was a Field Research Assistant at the Natural Resource Ecology Labs working on the Landscape-scale assessment of native and exotic plant diversity and Microbiotic crusts in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. (2000).
